Thoughtful ingredients

At Wild Indigo, every batch begins with thoughtful ingredients—from the fats, oils and butters that form our soap bases to the botanicals and clays we work with. We consider what each ingredient brings to the finished bar—its lather, its feel and the pleasure of using it.

Natural ingredients are at the heart of what we make. We also love exploring scent, from familiar favourites to something a little unexpected. In selected soaps, we use carefully chosen fragrance oils, which are free from parabens and phthalates. These oils let us explore scents beyond essential oils when they suit the character of the bar. Fragrance oils have a place in those soaps only; we don’t use them in our other products.

We believe you should know exactly what you’re choosing. Whenever a soap contains fragrance oil, we say so clearly and prominently in its product description—not just in the ingredient list. Each soap’s scent information makes clear whether it contains essential oils, fragrance oils, or a blend of both.

Our bath and body products are made with that same care and transparency. In our bath bombs, we use Polysorbate 80—a water-dispersing ingredient made from sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, and oleic acid, a fatty acid. These ingredients are then processed with ethylene oxide to create the finished Polysorbate 80.

We use it for a practical reason: oils do not naturally mix with water. Polysorbate 80 helps the oils and colour disperse more evenly throughout the bath instead of collecting on the surface. It also helps reduce slippery oil and residue around the tub. It is included because it serves a clear purpose, and—as with every ingredient we use—we list it plainly so you know exactly what is in the product.

The story behind Wild Indigo

Wild Indigo began because I wasn’t happy with the products I was using. I originally set out to make shampoo and conditioner bars, and I didn’t like the way store-bought soap left my skin feeling. One day, I woke up and thought, “If somebody else can make soap, why can’t I?”

That simple question became the beginning of Wild Indigo. Making soap gave me the chance to choose what went into each batch and explore what I wanted from an everyday bar—how it feels, how it lathers and how it smells.

Shampoo and conditioner bars are still something I’m working toward. For now, I’m putting that same curiosity and care into the soaps, skincare and bath products I make, with thoughtful ingredients and a clear explanation of what’s in each product.
